Celebrating the Red, White and Goo!

July 5, 2017

Generally, I'm a low-level foodie. Not a food snob, more gourmand than gourmet, but not a huge junk food person. (However, if someone would like to sponsor an evening at Alinea in Chicago, I'm free every day and happy to play fancy-schmancy foodie for the evening!)

Let's just say this – I'd pick a good, stinky cheese and glass of wine over a hot fudge sundae any day!

However, two Fourth of July potlucks in two days called for a dessert that was fun, fast, festive and kid- and adult-friendly.

Not to get too Pinterest-y, but I made my first (and second, oh and THIRD) batch(es) of Rice Krispies Treats, and just to be a little show off-y, I made them layered red, white and blue.

Do you already know about these? Why have I never made these before? They couldn't have been easier or more fun to serve. I wouldn't make them regularly ... I still prefer something a little more gourmet and a little less gooey, but you can't beat a red, white and blue treat!

Yes, they're disgusting and border on non-food status, but we still had no trouble helping our friends polish off three batches in two days!

What are your guilty pleasure recipes that I should try right away? This is definitely going in my once-a-year-whether-I-need-them-or-not repertoire!
